Beta Product Development |
| |
This phase of product development begins with an existing (Alpha)
prototype that demonstrates consistent and reliable performance. As a
critical first step, we integrate the clients’ input to prepare a complete
design specification (performance and physical) based upon the preliminary
information available, including (pictures, drawings, tolerances, and test
metrics). If The Photonics Group had produced the Alpha prototype, the
specifications and design directions are readily available from the project
plan generated during the Alpha phase. The application of our project
management system provides a consistent project flow in successive
phases of development. We revise the performance and physical specifications throughout the development process so that at project completion, the formal specifications reflect the final, as-delivered
prototype.

We strive to maintain simple design lines to reduce design time, while
maintaining functionality and consistent, reliable operation. |

CASE STUDY |
| |
| Development of a Safety Shuttering and Guard System For A Photomicrolithography System |
| |
Challenge |
| |
| A defense contractor required the shuttering and guarding of a 266 nm @ 5 W UV laser system used in a Photomicrolithography system. The system was under development, and being tested for use (BETA) in a cleanroom environment. The client wanted to ensure safe use by unskilled operations personnel. |
| |
Solution |
| |
| The Photonics Group was contracted and took delivery of the system and by performing all the duties required of a standard operator (as well as service and maintenance personnel), integrated ergonomic engineering and developed a guarding system capable of 6 axis independent movement and loading/unloading operations while eliminating access to laser radiation. |
| |
Conclusion |
| |
| The project schedule defined a 60-day timeline. The Photonics Group completed the project within 60 days, from design, development, and installation of guarding system on product to the delivery of tested system. Upon delivery, the client issued a purchase order for three (3) more systems. The Photonics Group completed this project at the budget allocated. |
